INAUGURATION OF A NEW CENTRE FOR THE TREATMENT OF EATING DISORDERS SET UP IN COLLABORATION WITH THE REGION OF UMBRIA.

On 21st February the President of the Republic H.E. George Abela inaugurated the new centre for the treatment of eating disorders in the presence of the Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, the Minister of Health Godfrey Farrugia and the Italian Ambassador Giovanni Umberto De Vito. The centre was set up in collaboration with the Umbria region and the Azienda Sanitaria of Perugia.

The centre, which will be receiving those persons affected by anorexia, bulimia and obesity, is the first facility for the treatment of such disorders in Malta. The patients will be cared for by a team of doctors and experts who received professional training and mentoring in Italy thanks to an agreement between the Ministry of Health and the Umbria region. The collaboration with Umbria will continue for the next two years with various visits and regular updates provided by specialists from the towns of Todi and Citta’ di Castello.

A delegation led by the Vice-President of the region of Umbria Carla Casciari and including the President of Italy’s Institute of Health Fabrizio Oleari came to Malta for the occasion. The inauguration of the centre is yet another result achieved thanks to the broad and fruitful collaboration between Malta and Italy in the field of health care.
