The cultural ties between Italy and Malta are rooted in a shared history, geographical proximity, and the continuous human, linguistic and artistic exchanges that have shaped the central Mediterranean for centuries.
The presence of the Italian language and culture in Malta, together with cooperation in the educational, academic and cultural fields, constitutes an essential element of the bilateral relationship. This common heritage continues today to foster an active dialogue between the respective civil societies, strengthening mutual understanding and adding further depth to relations between the two countries.
To date, cultural cooperation between Italy and Malta is based on two agreements:
- Accordo di Collaborazione Culturale, firmato a La Valletta il 28 luglio 1967;
- Accordo in materia di Cooperazione Culturale e di Istruzione, firmato a Roma il 19 dicembre 2007.
