The close scientific and technological cooperation between Italy and Malta is promoted and supported by the Embassy of Italy, also through ongoing coordination with the University of Malta and numerous Italian universities, fostering the development of joint initiatives, academic exchanges and shared research activities.
Within this framework, the Italian Cultural Institute plays a particularly significant role, organising seminars, conferences and in-depth sessions each year in cooperation with the University of Malta and with the participation of Italian experts. These initiatives address topics of scientific and technological relevance, including:
- Environment and health;
- Landscape and territorial planning;
- Astrophysics;
- Artificial intelligence and biotechnology;
- Urban regeneration.
In September 2024, a Scientific Cooperation Agreement was concluded between the National Research Council of Italy and Malta’s national agency for research, innovation and space, Xjenza Malta.
