Promoting the Italian language

Teaching and promotion of the Italian language

Promoting the Italian language abroad is one of Italy’s principal instruments and a key priority in its foreign policy.

Italian is widely spoken among the Maltese population and is taught in all state schools, as well as in numerous private and religious schools. Moreover, Italian ranks first among curricular foreign languages and is taught from the first year of lower secondary school through to the final year of upper secondary education.
