The Embassy of Italy in Valletta uses social media for institutional purposes, with the aim of increasing transparency and awareness of its activities: it informs, communicates, listens, and publishes institutional content.
The official social media profiles of the Embassy are as follows:
- Facebook;
- Instagram;
- X (Twitter).
Published content includes photographs, institutional videos, press releases, service information, and news relating to the activities of this Mission, as well as opportunities for citizen engagement and participation. Personal data are processed in compliance with the regulations established for their protection.
Through its social media channels, the Embassy may share and repost content and messages of public interest and public utility published by other users.
The Embassy is committed to managing spaces for communication and dialogue within its social media profiles and asks its users to comply with a few simple rules:
- Everyone is asked to express their opinions with courtesy, moderation, and respect.
- On social media, each individual is responsible for the content they publish and the opinions they express. Insults, vulgar language, offensive remarks, threats, and, in general, violent or defamatory behaviour will not be tolerated.
- Published content must always comply with personal data protection regulations. References to facts or details lacking public relevance and infringing upon the private sphere of third parties should be avoided.
- Relevance of topics to the activities of this Mission is an essential requirement: these spaces may not, under any circumstances, be used for purposes other than institutional ones.
- Each discussion relates to a specific topic: all participants are required to respect it, avoiding generic and indiscriminate deviations from the subject.
- Any form of advertising, spam, or promotion of private interests or illegal activities will not be tolerated.
- Content that infringes copyright or makes unauthorized use of registered trademarks is not permitted.
In any case, where the social media platform allows it, all posts, comments, or audio/video materials that:
- contain inappropriate language and/or a threatening, violent, vulgar, or disrespectful tone;
- contain unlawful content or incitement to commit unlawful acts;
- contain offensive, misleading, alarmist content, or content infringing the rights of third parties;
- disclose personal data and information or may cause harm to or damage the reputation of third parties;
- contain obscene, pornographic, or child pornographic material, or content likely to offend users’ sensitivities;
- contain discriminatory content based on gender, race, ethnicity, language, religion, political opinions, sexual orientation, age, or personal and social conditions;
- promote or support illegal activities, infringe copyright, or improperly use a registered trademark,
will be removed by the staff.
In the event of repeated violations of these conditions or of the policies governing the platforms used, the Embassy reserves the right to ban or block users (where possible after an initial warning) in order to prevent further interventions, and to report the user to the platform administrators and, where appropriate, to law enforcement authorities.
The Embassy’s social media channels do not replace the official public access channels for information and assistance services provided by the Administration, in particular by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) (https://www.esteri.it/en/ ).
