The Embassy of Italy, in collaboration with the President’s Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society, is organizing a programme of events on the occasion of the Holocaust Memorial Day 2016.
Representatives of the Italian Jewish community, the Shoah Foundation in Rome and the Yad Vashem Museum in Jerusalem will be attending the commemorative ceremony to be hosted at Verdala Palace. Maltese authorities, representatives of the diplomatic corps, the civil society and University will also be participating.
On the same day a group of Maltese and Italian students (the latter coming from the “Renzo Levi” High School in Rome) will be engaged in educational activities on issues such as memory, interfaith and intercultural dialogue. Debates will be moderated by international experts and Professors.
In the evening, the Italian Cultural Institute in Valletta will host the screening of “L’Orologio di Monaco”, a documentary movie by the Italian director Mario Caputo.
“I am grateful for the collaboration received in organising, for the first time in Malta, such a programme of cultural events to commemorate the Holocaust Memorial Day. Every year the Italian Republic pays tribute to Holocaust victims and Italian institutions organise educational, commemorative and research projects particularly addressed to youth and students”, declared Ambassador Giovanni Umberto De Vito. “Thanks to its position at the centre of the Mediterranean – he added – Malta has a natural vocation to foster dialogue and understanding on such important matters”.
