The Italian Cultural Institute celebrated the European Day of Languages with a cultural event aimed at promoting the variety and uniqueness of European Languages. The activity was held within the framework of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The event, organised by the Italian Cultural Institute under the patronage of the Embassy of Italy and in collaboration with the Malta EU Steering and Action Committee (MEUSAC), saw the participation of the Ambassadors and representatives of the Member States of the European Council. The participants read a poem in their own language thus sharing with those present their country’s literary heritage.
The Ambassador of Italy, Giovanni Umberto De Vito, inaugurated the event with a welcoming speech in which he thanked those who participated in this initiative. He also read a poem written by the Italian writer Primo Levi entitled Shema.
The event was followed by a reception.
