On 27th June 2014 the Ambassador of Italy Giovanni Umberto De Vito visited the restoration project of Fort St. Angelo in Birgu. The works, commissioned by Heritage Malta, are being carried out by MT.R Contracting Ltd, a Maltese registered company with Italian shareholders.
The works, with a total cost of approximately 4.3 million euros, form part of a more extensive project aimed at restoring and enhancing the historic building situated at the centre of the Grand Harbour. The project entails the restoration of the entire fort and several buildings located within the inner and outer fortification walls. Even the walls are set to be restored and the whole project will be completed by summer 2015.
The technical management of the project is entrusted to Dr. Filomena Capriata and a team of qualified and expert restorers and architects who have already acquired valuable experience in the conservative restoration of the fortifications in Valletta, Birgu and Mdina.
