Malta is a very a very popular destination among Italian cruise passengers. This was one of the subjects discussed during the press conference on board of the “Costa Favolosa” which took place on last 5th April 2013, which Ambassador Giovanni Umberto De Vito attended.
The Ambassador pointed out how Italian tourists are always more interested in the islands’ natural beauty and cultural artistic heritage, and how this has had a positive effect on the local economy related to tourism.
Minister for Tourism Karmenu Vella was present at the conference inaugurating the 2013-2014 cruise line schedule.
For 2013, Costa Crociere intends to carry out more than 60 calls at Valletta’s Harbour, with a fleet of 6 ships (Classica, Deliziosa, Magica, Fascinosa, Favolosa e Voyager) transporting a total of about 186,000 passengers. Starting from this year, Valletta will also become a departure point for local cruise passengers.
With nearly 100,000 passengers, Italy occupies the second place for number of tourists visiting Malta.
