On May 24th, the Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority, Gavin Gulia,  inaugurated, at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, the final seminar of the Project entitled “OBIMED / Out of the Blue – Isles in the MEDiterranean”, geared towards promoting touristic and cultural exchange between the western parts of Sicily and Malta. The intention of the initiative is to improve tourism services in the said areas by means of a website, an upgraded Free Wi-Fi network, iPhone, iPad and Android apps, a Smart Box and booking kiosks.

Furthermore, thanks to “Job Experience”, an online space connected to the most popular social networks, it will be possible to gain access to a list of traineeships offered by Tourism Operators, Hospitality and Tourism Institutions present in the said areas.

“OBIMED” was organized by the Local Council of Sciacca in collaboration with the Italian-Maltese Chamber of Commerce, the Local Council of Għarb in Gozo, the Local Council of Castelvetrano and the Malta Tourism Society.

The project, co-financed by the EU Regional Development Fund as part of the 2007-2013 Italy-Malta Operational Programme, aims at increasing the demand for, and competitiveness of, the transboundary area, simultaneously guaranteeing its environmental sustainability.
