ITALY AND MALTA SIGN XIV EXECUTIVE PROGRAMME OF CULTURAL AGREEMENT

On 1st July, the Ambassador of Italy, Giovanni Umberto De Vito, and the Permanent Secretary of the Maltese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Fiona Formosa, signed the 14th Executive Programme of Cultural Agreement. Both sides expressed their common intent to broaden and strengthen the bilateral collaboration that already exists in the sectors of culture and education.

The agreement, based on the cultural collaboration agreement signed in 1967, identifies the cultural activities and priority lines of action to be followed by Italy and Malta in the period 2014-2017. Particular attention will be given to direct collaboration between the universities and institutes for higher education of both countries, especially through the exchange of teachers and the implementation of joint research projects, particularly in the field of science. Other areas indicated in the agreement include the promotion and dissemination of Italian language and culture in Malta and more cooperation in the film and television sector.

The signing of the agreement coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Italian Cultural Institute in Valletta, inaugurated by Aldo Moro in 1974.

The agreement is another important result achieved thanks to the ever-growing bilateral relations between Italy and Malta.
