On 1st July, Italy’s Presidency of the European Union was launched and will run till 31st December. On this occasion, the Maltese national TV station TVM aired an interview with the Ambassador of Italy, Giovanni Umberto De Vito.
The Ambassador illustrated the priorities of the programme of the Italian Presidency, highlighting that particular attention will be given to policies favouring economic growth and employment (especially youth employment) and other measures aimed at a better management of migration flows.
While explaining the main tasks linked with the Presidency of the EU, Ambassador De Vito emphasised that the Italian semester will provide the opportunity to further strengthen the bilateral collaboration that already exists between Italy and Malta. In fact an understanding was reached between the two countries for a young Maltese diplomat to be sent to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to gain experience in view of the Maltese Presidency of the UE in 2017.
