ITALIAN NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATED IN MALTA

On 2nd June 2014, the Embassy of Italy in Malta organised the traditional celebration of Italy’s National Day. The event was attended by the President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, various members of the Government and the Opposition as well as academics, entrepreneurs, diplomats and other members of the civil society.

In his speech, the Ambassador of Italy Giovanni Umberto De Vito highlighted the strong ties that exist between Italy and Malta, as well as the intense and fruitful bilateral collaboration, particularly in the areas of migration, energy and health.

This year the National Day was dedicated to the promotion of the Milan EXPO 2015 on nutrition and the sustainable use of resources to be held in Italy from May to October 2015 (“Feeding the world. Energy for Life”). Besides inviting the Commissioner appointed to coordinate Malta’s participation, the Embassy also invited the representatives in Malta of the major sponsoring brands. The main themes of Milan EXPO were explained through footage projected on big screens set up in the halls hosting the event.

Thanks to the support of some Italian companies, the event also presented the agricultural excellence, food specialities and territorial variety of Italy through the tasting of PDO products such as Parmigiano Reggiano, Asiago, Prosciutto di Parma and Mozzarella di bufala campana.

Among those attending were Gen. Vincenzo Camporini, former Chief of Defence and vice-president of the Institute of International Affairs, and Dr. Roberto Ciccuto, CEO of the Istituto Luce-Cinecittà.
