On 28th February the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi received the Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat at Palazzo Chigi.
During the meeting, the Hon. Renzi pointed out the priorities of the forthcoming Italian Presidency of the EU and confirmed Italy’s intention of placing more emphasis on issues such as the Mediterranean and immigration. On his part Muscat expressed his hope that, through Malta’s collaboration with Italy and other countries, Brussels may adopt concrete measures to manage the flow of immigrants from North Africa.
Muscat is among the first foreign heads of government to meet Prime Minister Renzi, a further proof of the excellent relations that exist between Italy and Malta. Muscat is in Rome to participate in the Congress of the European Socialist Party.
