Tourism in Malta
In 2024, tourist flows from Italy to Malta increased significantly, strengthening the already solid bilateral relationship between the two countries. According to data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO), Italian tourist arrivals rose from 552,462 in 2023 to 616,326 in 2024, an increase of over 11%. Another significant figure concerns the total expenditure incurred by Italian tourists, which rose from €338.114 million to €394.599 million in the space of a year. The increase in arrivals and spending also testifies to Malta’s attractiveness to Italian travelers, favored by a number of factors such as geographical proximity, numerous air and sea connections, the presence of a highly appealing historical and cultural heritage, and a shared tradition of hospitality. The significance of these figures is part of a context of Italian-Maltese cooperation that goes far beyond the tourism sector, but finds in tourism a driving force for growth and the strengthening of ties.
