Below is a list of the main bilateral agreements currently in force.<\/p>\n
Memorandum of Understanding in the pharmaceutical sector<\/strong>, signed on 18 February between the Malta Medicines Authority (MMA) and the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA), aimed at strengthening regulatory cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, improving the safety of medicines and access to therapies, promoting innovation, and increasing resilience in the event of health emergencies.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Technical Agreement<\/strong>, signed on 18 June 2025 between Italy and Malta on cooperation in transfusion services. The agreement provides for Italian support in the event of health emergencies and promotes the efficient management of blood and blood components for the production of plasma-derived medicinal products.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Technical-operational Memorandum of Understanding<\/strong> signed between the Italian Department of Public Security and the Malta Police Force, aimed at strengthening police cooperation in combating transnational organized crime, illicit trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances, international terrorism, economic and financial crime, human trafficking and irregular migration, as well as cybercrime and activities related to public order and security. Signed in Rome in December 2024.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n On 29 April 2024<\/strong>, Italy and Malta signed a Memorandum of Understanding<\/strong> between their respective Supreme Audit Institutions (the Italian Court of Auditors and the National Audit Office of Malta) to cooperate in the management and control of European Funds, in particular the INTERREG V A Italy\u2013Malta Programme<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Memorandum of Understanding<\/strong> on mutual cooperation between the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic of Malta and the National Anti-Mafia and Counter-Terrorism Directorate of the Italian Republic.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Scientific Cooperation Agreement and related Programme<\/strong> between the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) and the University of Malta, signed in Malta on 17 February 2017.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Agreement on the issuance of Schengen visas by Italy on behalf of Malta<\/strong>, signed in Rome on 7 December 2016.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Joint Declaration<\/strong> by the Italian Minister of Health, Hon. Lorenzin, and the Maltese Minister of Health, Hon. Farrugia, in the field of medical and healthcare cooperation, signed in Rome on 31 January 2014.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Memorandum of Understanding<\/strong> on the registration and promotion of quality agri-food products, signed on 24 February 2014 between the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari and the Maltese Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Technical Memorandum of Understanding<\/strong> on training in healthcare assistance and research on eating disorders and obesity, signed between the Maltese Ministry of Health and the Umbria 1 Local Health Authority on 25 June 2013.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Technical-operational Memorandum of Understanding<\/strong> between the Italian Department of Public Security and the Malta Police Force to strengthen police cooperation in the fight against human trafficking, illegal immigration, organized crime and terrorism, signed on 4 October 2012.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Memorandum of Understanding on enhanced cooperation<\/strong> between signed on 30 June 2010 and entered into force on 8 September 2010.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Memorandum of Understanding<\/strong> between the Ministry of Health of the Italian Republic and the Ministry for Social Policy of Malta on cooperation in the field of health and medical sciences, signed in Malta on 23 December 2009 and entered into force on the date of signature.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Protocol to the Agreement between Italy and Malta for the avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income and the prevention of tax evasion<\/strong>, signed in Rome on 13 March 2009 and entered into force on 24 November 2010.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Memorandum of Understanding<\/strong> between the Government of the Italian Republic and the Government of the Republic of Malta on cooperation in the field
