Presence of the applicant is mandatory on the appointed day, where complete original documentation has to be submitted and, where required, including a copy of it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Before<\/strong> booking an appointment, please consult the specific webpages so to identify the appropriate <strong>visa type<\/strong> and the <strong>documentation<\/strong> to be submitted with the application. Visa applications must be submitted no later than <strong>15 days<\/strong> before the intended travel date and no earlier than <strong>six months<\/strong> before that date. On this website, information is provided regarding visas for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students<\/li>\n<li>Self-employment<\/li>\n<li>Employment<\/li>\n<li>Digital nomads<\/li>\n<li>Seafarers<\/li>\n<li>Elective residence<\/li>\n<li>Re-entry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For other types of visas not covered on the Embassy&#8217;s website, you can consult the information available on the portal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/vistoperitalia.esteri.it\/\">Visa for Italy<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>For further information, you may consult <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/it\/servizi-opportunita\/ingressosoggiornoinitalia\/\">the page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation<\/a>, which provides answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs), useful links, and general guidance.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that to apply for any type of visa, you must hold a <strong>valid passport<\/strong> that meets the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Its validity must extend at least three months beyond the duration of the requested visa;<\/li>\n<li>It must contain at least two blank pages;<\/li>\n<li>It must have been issued within the last 10 years.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It is also required to present a valid <strong>Maltese Residence Permit<\/strong> for a <strong>National\/Long term visa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a recent <strong>passport-sized color photo<\/strong> (taken within the last six months) with a white background is always required. For more information, <a href=\"https:\/\/amblavalletta.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/fotografia_passaporto_web.pdf\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FEES TO BE PAID<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The fees to be paid for the processing of visa applications vary depending on the <strong>type of visa<\/strong> requested.<\/p>\n<p>For payment and consular fees to be paid, please consult the page <a href=\"https:\/\/amblavalletta.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/albo-consolare-e-altri-servizi\/tariffa-consolare\/\">Consular fee \u2013 Ambasciata d&#8217;Italia La Valletta<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Any <strong>reductions<\/strong> or <strong>exemptions<\/strong> are established by Article 16 of the Community Code on Visas (<a href=\"http:\/\/data.europa.eu\/eli\/reg\/2009\/810\">Regulation EC No. 810\/2009<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>PROCESSING TIMES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Processing times vary depending on the type of visa requested (National or Schengen), as well as the applicant\u2019s country of citizenship. For Schengen visas, the timeframe is up to 15 days (extendable up to a maximum of 45 days), while for National visas it may take up to 90 days.<\/p>\n<p>Exceptions apply to certain types of National visas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Self-employment visa: up to 120 days;<\/li>\n<li>Employment visa: up to 30 days;<\/li>\n<li>Family reunification visa: up to 30 days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>MINORS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For <strong>minors<\/strong>, both parents must be present on the day of the appointment. If one parent is unable to attend, a notarized parental consent for visa issuance must be provided by a Maltese notary. If the parents reside abroad, the consent must be legalized by the Italian consular office in their country of residence. This also applies if the parents residing abroad appoint a guardian.<\/p>\n<p><strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>PLEASE NOTE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The following warnings apply to all the information provided in this section of the website.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applicants should always appear in person. All documents must be printed out and submitted as originals plus a photocopy where required.<\/p>\n<p>If deemed necessary, the Embassy has full authority to evaluate and request additional documentation in addition to what has been submitted and\/or a personal interview. Submission of all required documents does not guarantee the issuance of any visa.<\/p>\n<p>Certificates issued by a foreign authority, must be legalised and translated in Italian. Certificates issued by one of the Schengen countries will be accepted only if multilingual.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It will not be possible to return the passport to you while the application is under review, unless you formally withdraw\/cancel your application.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Citizens of\u00a0Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine and Travel Document holders (with the three letters code XXA or XXB)\u00a0need to provide full names of mother and father and it must result from a birth certificate or Consular declaration.<\/p>\n<p>The information outlined above may be subject to change without prior notice.
